"Only one confederation, UEFA, provided a standalone qualification process for the Women's World Cup 2023. The other five (AFC, CAF, Concacaf, CONMEBOL and OFC) relied on confederation championships, which doubled up as World Cup qualification and, in the case of Concacaf and Conmebol, tripled up as 2024 Olympic qualifiers," according to a report on the qualifying conditions for the Women's World Cup 2023 published by FIFPro on 20/06/2023.

"The research highlights how improvements are needed in all regions on everything from health to recovery, and from training conditions to compensation," said the international men and women players union.

The competition's qualification pathways were "uneven and disparate", with "multiple inconsistencies in the scheduling, duration, format and conditions between tournaments," according to the report.

In addition to this study, 362 international players from the six confederations completed a FIFPro survey on their experience during the qualifying phase for the next World Cup, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand from 20/07 to 20/08/2023…
