Liverpool FC: following a successful rail seating trial, club to apply for "Safe Standing Licence"

Liverpool FC (Premier League) has completed its trial period of rail seating in certain sections at Anfield (53,394 capacity) and will apply for a licence to install it on a permanent basis, announced the club on 30/06/2023.

"The club reviewed the effectiveness of rail seating in relation to fans' safety at the end of the trial period and, as a result of its findings, will be applying for a Safe Standing Licence from the Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA). The move will see the introduction of safe standing areas across all rail seating sections on the Kop and in the lower Anfield Road Stand from next season (2023-23). In these safe standing areas, supporters will be permitted to stand throughout matches," explained LFC.

Rail seating was first introduced in two areas of Anfield at the end of the 2020-21 season. As part of the initial trial, 7,800 rail seats were installed. A further 2,500 seats were added in the Kop during the 2022 World Cup break, bringing the total number of rail seats at Anfield to 10,300.
