MLS: "If we don’t have the right stadium, we’re not going to Miami" (Don Garber, commissioner)

"We love Miami, (but) if we don’t have the right stadium, we’re not going to Miami, nor should we go to any market without the right stadium plan. Until we get (a stadium) finalised, we can’t make a commitment to go to Miami,” stated Don Garber, the commissioner of MLS (Major League Soccer, USA-CAN), during his annual State of the League address with American media on 02/12/2014, in advance of the MLS Cup final on 07/12/2014 (LA Galaxy hosting the New England Revolution). Garber is referring to the Miami franchise awarded to the David Beckham group, expected to be the league's 23rd franchise, but conditional upon the Beckham group finding a stadium solution in downtown Miami.

Regarding additional expansion franchises into the league, Don Garber stated "we need to make some decisions (about) when the next number of teams are going to be formally announced. We are very focused on that happening in 2015, for sure. It's conceivable it could happen within the next six months from January to June, (finalising) when the next team or two teams (the 23rd and 24th franchises) are coming in.…
