UEFA: the use of VAR extended to 239 additional matches in the 2023-24 European Cups

"In 2023-24, an additional 239 matches will use VAR across the Champions League, the Europa League and the Europa Conference League," announced UEFA on 10/07/2023.

⚽ Champions League: VAR will now be available for all qualifying matches, not just those from the third round onwards, which represents an additional 63 matches compared to the 2022-23 season.
⚽ Europa League: VAR will be introduced from the third qualifying round and the play-offs preceding the group stage, (36 matches, +26%). Until now, VAR was only used from the group stage onwards.
⚽ Europa Conference League: implementation of VAR from the play-offs and group stage, i.e. 140 more matches than in 2022-23 (+ 311%).

"Looking forward to the new club competitions cycle commencing in the 2024-25 season, VAR shall continue to be used for all Champions League rounds, with the technology introduced as of the first qualifying round of the Europa League. Subject to a feasibility study due to the high number of matches, VAR may also be introduced prior to the play-offs of the Europa Conference league next season."
