England / The FA: launch of a five-year sustainability strategy (2023-2028)

The Football Association has launched a "new five-year sustainability strategy (2023-2028), setting out a plan to make a positive impact on the environment and communities," announced English Football Federation on 06/07/2023.

"The new strategy, titled ‘Playing for the Future’, has been created through extensive consultation with a wide range of football stakeholders and environmental experts and will be reviewed every two years," said the body.

"The strategy focuses on three core areas:
• fight climate change and reduce emissions: achieving net zero status by 2040 by investing over £35m (€40,9m) and reducing CO2e emissions by 50% by 2030 from a 2019 baseline;
• optimise resource consumption, especially across Wembley Stadium (London) and St. George’s Park (national training centre, Burton-on-Trent), embed more sustainable practices across the organisation and reduce water consumption by 30% by 2028 from a 2019 baseline;
