LALIGA EA Sports: carbon neutrality achieved by Real Betis Balompié in 2020-21

Real Betis Balompié (LALIGA EA Sports) have achieved carbon neutrality by offsetting all their emissions during the 2020-21 season, announced the Spanish club on 11/07/2023.

This carbon neutrality, "a first for a top-flight Spanish team," was achieved by purchasing carbon credits from the United Nations through the financing of the building and operation of an electricity-producing wind farm in Unión Hidalgo (MEX). "The project also has a positive social and economic impact at local level through job creation and staff training, as well as the development of the region's industry," added the Sevillian club.

This is the third consecutive year that Real Betis has measured and recorded its carbon footprint according to the Spanish Ministry of Ecological Transition's dedicated registry. "Since the 2018-19 season, the first during which Real Betis Balompié measured its environmental impact, the club has managed to reduce its carbon footprint by 35.5%, applying its decarbonisation policy and good environmental practices.
