Spain / Copa del Rey 2019-2022: the Federation (RFEF) ordered to pay "up to €12.3m" to Mediapro

The Provincial Court of Madrid (ESP) has ordered the Spanish Football Federation (Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol) to pay "up to a maximum of €12.3m" to Mediapro for excluding the Spanish audiovisual group from the call for tenders for the commercialisation of the media rights to the Copa del Rey over the 2019-2022 cycle, announced Mediapro on 11/07/2023.

"We sentence the defendant (RFEF) to compensate the plaintiff (Mediapro) for loss of profit derived from not having been awarded the contract to manage the media rights in Spain, Europe and internationally.  The RFEF is also required to pay the costs involved in the proceedings," according to the Spanish body's decision communicated by Mediapro.

This decision confirms that of the Commercial Court of Madrid, which had already ruled in favour of Mediapro regarding its exclusion from the call for tenders for the Copa del Rey over the 2019-2022 cycle, on 12/01/2022.
