Qatar 2022: $209m (€188m) distributed by FIFA to 440 clubs that released players for the World Cup

FIFA has distributed $209m (€188m as of 13/07/2023) to 440 clubs from 51 member associations across all six confederations involved in the FIFA Club Benefits Programme for the 2022 World Cup, announced the global body on 13/07/2023, almost seven months after the final of the competition (Argentina won against France on 18/12/2022).

This amount compensates "the release of 837 footballers for a rounded per player daily amount of $10,950 (€9,889), regardless of how many minutes they played during the tournament. The total per player is divided and distributed to the club(s) with which the player was registered in the two years leading up to the final competition. As per standard procedure, FIFA will distribute the amounts via the member associations to which the relevant clubs are affiliated," said FIFA.

Among the recipient clubs, UEFA member clubs are the most numerous (275, i.e. 62.5% of the total) and the ones to receive the highest amount ($158.9m, or 76%). Manchester City FC (Premier League) is the club that received the highest total, at $4.6m (€4.1m).
