Goal-line technology will come into effect in the Bundesliga, the German first division, for the 2015-16 season, announced the DFL (German Professional Football League) at its general meeting on 04/12/2014. 15 of the 18 Bundesliga clubs voted in favour of this technology. A two-thirds majority (12 of 18 clubs) was required for this adoption.

The technology of the British company Hawk-Eye was chosen after a tender procedure launched on 22/09/2014. Stadiums of the 2.Bundesliga, the German second division, will not be equipped with the technology on the goal-line at the moment. "Today is a great day for our referees. The decision of the League in favour of technology on the goal-line is consistent and fair. We will now reflect, as we plan and implement this system in the DFB-Pokal (German Cup)," said Helmut Sandrock, general secretary of the DFB (German Football Federation). Hawk-Eye will be the goal-line technology provider of the Bundesliga from 2015-16 to the end of the 2017-18 season.
