The Supreme Committee for implementation and heritage (name of the local organising committee of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar) introduced, on 02/12/2014, the plans of the Qatar Foundation Stadium (capacity 40,000), which will be built northwest of Doha, the capital of the emirate.

The stadium will have a cooling system to maintain a temperature between 24 and 28 degrees inside the enclosure. The roof of the stadium will be equipped with photovoltaic panels, designed to provide 20% of the energy required. The Spanish architect firm of Fenwick Iribarren conceived the design of the stadium, whose exterior was inspired by the shape of a diamond.

The Qatar Foundation Stadium will see its capacity reduced to 25,000 seats after the 2022 World Cup. No date has been revealed for the start of work. However, the organising committee hopes to deliver the infrastructure in the first quarter of 2018, as well as the adjoining neighborhoods and infrastructure.
