Video games: Erling Haaland succeeds Kylian Mbappé on the cover of EA Sports FC 24 (formerly "FIFA")

Erling Haaland, a Norwegian player who plays for Manchester City FC (Premier League), will appear on the cover of the first EA Sports FC 24 video game (formerly known as "FIFA"), announced the US publisher EA Sports (part of the Electronic Arts group) on 13/07/2023. The game will be available on 29/09/2023.

EA Sports, whose football video game was previously known as "FIFA", announced the end of its partnership with the world governing body (since 1993) as of July 2023, on 10/05/2022. FIFA wanted to extend the naming partnership for a further ten years (2024-2033), but demanded a total of $2.5bn (€2.7bn), a sum deemed too high by Electronic Arts according to British media.

EA Sports is using the image of the player with 54 million followers on social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) on the cover of its flagship video game for the first time. FIFA 23 was the best-selling video game in France in 2022 (1.75 million units sold, generating sales of €107m). Erling Haaland succeeds France's Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain), who featured on the game's cover in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
