FC Nantes: Emiliano Sala's transfer fee paid in full by Cardiff City FC

"Cardiff City FC (Sky Bet Championship) today paid the 2^nd and 3^rd instalments of the transfer fee (to FC Nantes, Ligue 1 Uber Eats) for Emiliano Sala, as recently ordered to do by FIFA," announced the Welsh club on 18/07/2023.

This announcement comes 19 days after FIFA ordered Cardiff to pay these last two instalments, which amount to €6m and €5m respectively, on 30/06/2023. The player's transfer, which had been fixed at €17m (excluding bonuses), provided for three separate payments: €6m within five days of the player registering with Cardiff, €6m on 01/01/2020 and €5m on 01/01/2021. The Welsh club had previously refused to pay the last two instalments, having paid the first in January 2023 according to the British press. The total amount paid by Cardiff to the French club includes a 5% interest rate.

"This (payment) is despite there not yet being a judicial decision about FC Nantes' liability for the crash. We continue to work towards those responsible being held accountable. We look forward to the trial before the French court next year," added the club.
