Bundesliga/2.Bundesliga: a record 19.7 million tickets sold by the 36 clubs in 2022-23

The 36 German professional football clubs (18 in the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga) sold a record total of 19.7 million tickets in 2022-23, announced the DFL on 19/07/2023.

The 2022-23 season thus beats the previous record set in 2016-17, which saw 19 million tickets purchased by fans, by 4%. This unprecedented figure is part of a season played entirely without restrictions on the number of fans allowed into German stadiums, the first since the start of the Covid-19 health crisis.

Of the 19.7 million tickets sold in 2022-23, nearly 13 million were sold by top-flight clubs, whose matches drew an average of 42,407 paying spectators. This figure is still below the average of 42,738 tickets purchased per match during the 2018-19 season.

Meanwhile, sales for second division matches were "significantly higher than in the pre-Covid era." 6.8 million tickets were sold in 2022-23, an average of 22,154 per match, which is a new record and up nearly 17% compared to the 2018-19 season.
