UEFA/Chelsea FC: a fine of €10m for non-compliance with financial fair play under Roman Abramovich

Chelsea FC (Premier League) has reached a settlement agreement with the UEFA Club Financial Control Body (CFCB), under which the club "has agreed to pay a financial contribution of €10m" to the body, announced UEFA on 27/07/2023.

This sanction follows the discovery by the consortium led by Todd Boehly, during the process of buying the club (finalised on 30/05/2022), of "potentially incomplete financial reporting under the club’s previous ownership (Russian businessman Roman Abramovich, from 2003 to 2022)." "Immediately following the completion of the purchase, Chelsea self-reported these matters to UEFA," said the club in a statement. According to the specialised media, the transactions concerned relate to the 2012-2019 period.

This cooperation with UEFA will enable the London club to avoid potential exclusion from European competitions (Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League), a sanction imposed by UEFA on Juventus FC (Serie A TIM) for the 2023-24 season, on 28/07/2023.
