Italy/Piracy: measures to shut down illegal websites in 30 minutes approved by AGCOM

"At its meeting on 26/07, the AGCOM Council unanimously approved amendments to the online copyright regulation concerning the fight against the illegal broadcasting of live sports content," announced the Italian Telecommunications Regulatory Authority on 27/07/2023.

"The new provisions give AGCOM the power to issue 'dynamic injunctions', based on the provisions of the European Commission's recommendation on combating online piracy dated 04/05/2023. Thanks to these measures, it will be possible to disable access to pirated content during the first 30 minutes of the broadcast of the event," explained the Authority.

"The measure is in line with the law of 14/07/2023, concerning provisions for the prevention and repression of the unlawful dissemination of copyright-protected content via digital communication networks, which will come into force on 08/08/2023 and thanks to which the Authority will be able to intervene to interrupt pirate broadcasts of all live events, including non-sporting events," added AGCOM.
