Tennis/US Open: Telefonica acquires exclusive broadcasting rights in Spain from 2023

Telefonica has acquired the exclusive rights to broadcast the entire US Open Grand Slam tournament in Spain from 2023 for its pay-TV subsidiary Movistar, announced the Spanish telecoms operator on 02/08/2023.

"The best of this tournament will be available on Movistar Plus+ for just €14, regardless of operator, with access to the best match each day, including the main matches during the two weeks of the Grand Slam. The option to enjoy all the matches and live coverage of the tournament can be selected via the MiMovistar offer," explained Movistar.

These rights were previously held by pay-TV group Eurosport, owned by media and entertainment conglomerate Warner Bros. Discovery. The latter also extended its rights to broadcast the US Open over the 2023-2027 cycle in 45 European territories, including 42 on an exclusive basis (excluding Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Ireland), on 14/02/2023. Eurosport has been broadcasting the Grand Slam tournament since 2001.
