Bundesliga: all you need to know about the 18 clubs participating in the 2023-24 season

FC Bayern Munich, 2022-23 Bundesliga champions, are putting their title on the line once again when they take on SV Werder Bremen on Friday 18/08/2023, when the 61^st edition of the Bundesliga begins.

The Bavarian club, huge favourites on the strength of their 11 consecutive league titles (a run stretching back to the 2012-13 season) - an unprecedented performance in the European Top 5 - are aiming to improve their record even further against ambitious opponents, starting with RB Leipzig, third in 2022-23, who recently beat them (3-0) in the DFL-Supercup on 12/08/2023. Borussia Dortmund will accompany the two clubs in the Champions League group stage, as will 1. FC Union Berlin, who are joining the European competition for the first time ever. SC Freiburg and Bayer 04 Leverkusen have qualified for the group stage of the Europa League, while Eintracht Frankfurt are hoping to reach the group stage of the Europa Conference League (play-offs on 24 and 31/08/2023 versus the winners of the preliminary round between Israel's Hapoel Beer-Sheva FC and Bulgaria's PFC Levski Sofia).
