Tennis: IBM deploys AI-generated audio commentary on US Open app & website

IBM has activated its partnership with the USTA organiser of the US Open Grand Slam tournament and is deploying an artificial intelligence (AI) solution within the US Open application and website to provide audio commentary, announced the American software, hardware and IT services company on 15/08/2023.

The "IBM watsonx powered AI" solution will automate the production of detailed, captioned audio commentary to accompany video highlights of the US Open on an "unprecedented scale - for every match in the singles draw, across all seventeen courts."

"Operating across a hybrid cloud infrastructure enabled by Red Hat OpenShift, generative AI built on these foundation models was applied to produce commentary with varied sentence structure and vocabulary to make the clips informative and engaging," explained IBM, which has specifically trained its AI in tennis language.
