World Athletics: a turnover of €51m in 2022, 89% of which was from TV rights & sponsorship

World Athletics has posted a turnover of $54.9m (€51.4m) for the 2022 financial year (01/01 to 31/12/2022), according to the international athletics federation on 17/08/2023.

Excluding the Olympic dividends of $39.4m (€34.8m) received by the body in 2021 as a result of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (held in 2021), the body's 2022 turnover is 26.5% higher than the $43.3m (€38.2m) posted in 2021 ($82.8m, or €73.1m including the Olympic dividends).

Not including IOC payments, World Athletics posted an annual deficit of $17.3m (€16.3m), compared with a profit of $29.7m (€26.2m) in 2021.

TV rights and sponsorship accounted for 88.7% of World Athletics' revenues, or $48.7m (€45.6m), up 27.4% on 2021 ($38.2m/€33.7m). TV rights amounted to $14.725m (€13.8m) and sponsorship rights to $13m (€12.1m).

Expenditure rose by 36.7% to $72m (€67.4m) due to the organisation of four World Athletics Series events, with 58% of expenditure devoted to competitions and events ($23.5m/€22m).
