FC Sochaux-Montbéliard: sale of the club approved, Jean-Claude Plessis named president

The final sale of FC Sochaux-Montbéliard by the Chinese group Nenking to the consortium of local economic players grouped under the banner "FCSM 2028" for a symbolic €1 took place on 25/08/2023, announced the club the same day.

In the wake of the sale, the new board of directors appointed Jean-Claude Plessis as president of the club, a role he had previously held from 1999 to 2008. Pierre Wantiez, former head of sports and general administration (2000-2008), has become deputy president of FCSM, while Gérald Maradan has been elected vice-president.

The French club from the Doubs region began its 2023-24 season in the National 1 on 25/08/2023 (Matchday 3), after the DNCG issued a favourable opinion on 17/08/2023 for the club's participation at this level (with restrictions on the wage bill and transfer allowances). This was followed a few hours later by confirmation of the club's professional status for one season by the FFF executive committee.
