Spain: regional football leaders demand the immediate resignation of Luis Rubiales

"After the recent events and the unacceptable examples of behaviour that have seriously damaged the image of Spanish football, the territorial presidents' committee request that Mr. Luis Rubiales present his resignation as president of the RFEF immediately," announced the Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol (RFEF) on 28/08/2023.

The president of the RFEF has been criticised for his behaviour during the presentation ceremony at the Women's World Cup 2023, won by Spain (1-0 versus England) at Stadium Australia in Sydney (AUS) on 20/08/2023: Luis Rubiales kissed La Roja striker Jenni Hermoso on the mouth against her will as the Spanish players greeted officials ahead of the trophy presentation.

"We will urge the corresponding bodies to carry out a wholesale, immediate and organic restructuring process of strategic positions in the Federation in order to bring in a new management role in Spanish football," said the presidents of the RFEF's 19 regional bodies in a statement that News Tank Football has reproduced in full below.
