Italy/Andrea Agnelli: ban reduced from 16 to 10 months (FIGC Court of Appeal)

The FIGC Court of Appeal has reduced the sanctions imposed by the Italian Football Federation's federal court on Andrea Agnelli, former president of Juventus FC (Serie A TIM), to a 10-month ban (instead of 16) and a fine of €40,000 (instead of €60,000), according to the body on 28/08/2023.

The initial sentence was handed down on 10/07/2023, before Andrea Agnelli lodged an appeal. The decision was taken in the context of the case of accounting manipulations deemed illegal and denounced by the Italian Financial Markets Authority (Consob/Commissione nazionale per le società e la Borsa) in respect of the last financial years of the club, which is listed on the stock exchange. In particular, Juventus and several of its directors were accused of irregularities in the accounting treatment of salaries and the costs of "cross-transfers" between clubs.

In this case, Andrea Agnelli was being tried separately from Juventus FC, which had reached an agreement with the FIGC Federal Court on 30/05/2023. This agreement provided for a fine of €718,240 for the club, fines ranging from €10,000 to…
