MLS Cup 2014: final match draws 1,887,000 TV viewers on average (+85%) in the United States

The 2014 MLS Cup final (07/12/2014 in Carson, California; LA Galaxy - New England Revolution, 2-1 a.e.t.) drew a total TV audience of 1,887,000 viewers on average in the United States during the match, according to American media on 09/12/2014. This represents an 85% increase for the culminating match of the MLS (Major League Soccer, USA-CAN) play-offs compared to 2013 final match (1,019,000 total viewers on average).

The 2014 MLS Cup final was also the first final match to be broadcast on three separate channels. ESPN (sports pay-TV, English-language) drew 964,000 viewers on average during the match. UniMas (pay-TV, Spanish-language generalist channel from the Univision group) drew 678,000 viewers on average, and UDN, the new Spanish-language sports pay-TV channel from the Univision group, drew 245,000 viewers on average.

  • The 2014 MLS Cup final was also broadcast in Canada on the sports pay-TV channel TSN, however no Canadian TV audience measurements for the match have yet been reported.
    • The 2013 MLS Cup final drew 53,000 viewers on average in Canada on TSN.
