Transfers: Manchester United with the most negative balance (- €1,396bn) since 2014 (CIES)

Manchester United FC (Premier League) is the club with the most negative net financial balance (purchases-sales) since 2014, with a cumulative result of - €1.396bn, according to the CIES Football Observatory in its "Weekly Post"  published on 05/09/2023.

Since 2014, the English club has generated €563m in revenue from players transfers, but has spent €1.959bn on acquiring players. Manchester United are ahead of Chelsea FC (Premier League, - €1.033bn) and Paris Saint-Germain (Ligue 1 Uber Eats, - €1.010bn).

13 of the 20 clubs with the most negative balance are from the Premier League, the biggest spending league on the transfer market. Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal SFC (in 13rd place) is the only club  in the list that is not part of the European Top 5. The Top 20 includes:
• 13 Premier League clubs;
• 2 Serie A TIM clubs (AC Milan, 9th, and Juventus FC, 14th);
• 2 LaLiga EA Sports clubs (FC Barcelona, 7th, Real Madrid CF, 19th);
• 1 Ligue 1 Uber Eats club;
• 1 Bundesliga club (FC Bayern Munich, 18th);
• 1 Roshn Saudi League club.
