Eredivisie: Alex Kroes appointed general manager of AFC Ajax from March 2024

Alex Kroes, director of international football strategy at AZ Alkmaar (Eredivisie), has been appointed general manager and chairman of the board of AFC Ajax and will take up his position on 15/03/2024, announced the Amsterdam club on 05/09/2023.

He will succeed Jan van Halst, non-executive director and member of the supervisory board, who was appointed "temporary chief executive" of the club on 04/09/2023.

The Dutch club had announced its intention to appoint Alex Kroes as its new general manager on 02/08/2023, before stating that his arrival date had yet to be determined due to a non-compete agreement with AZ Alkmaar, where Alex Kroes was employed at the time.

Edwin Van der Sar, CEO of AFC Ajax since the end of 2016, stepped down on 30/05/2023.
