Serie A: AC Milan want to build a stadium of 42,000 seats, Emirates could be the naming partner

AC Milan (Serie A TIM) want to leave the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (capacity 80,000) and build their own 42,000-seater stadium, wrote the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport on 11/12/2014.

Barbara Berlusconi, co-director of the Milanese club, is currently negotiating with Fiera Milano (Milan Fair, the exhibition centre premises of the city) to acquire 60,000 m² (out of a total area of 753,000 m²) to build a stadium near Casa Milan, the new headquarters of the club. Fiera Milano does not want to give up the plot of land, but rather to provide it to the club in exchange for a stake in the future company that would own and operate the site/stadium. ''We expect significant management responses (regarding the stadium plans of AC Milan) in the first six months of 2015," said Barbara Berlusconi, daughter of Silvio Berlusconi, the owner of the club.

Construction work could begin in 2016 for an expected opening in 2019. AC Milan plans a semi-sunken enclosure (with a pitch 15 meters below the level of the surrounding streets so that the stadium does not protrude over the neighbouring…
