Spain / Liga F: players to go on strike for the first two matchdays of the 2023-24 season

The five unions of professional women players in Liga F (FUTPRO, AFE, Futbolistas ON, CCOO and UGT) have confirmed their strike action for the first two matchdays of the 2023-24 Spanish women's league (08 to 10/09 and 15 to 17/09/2023), on 07/09/2023.

This decision was taken after negotiations between the players unions and Liga F, held on 06/09/2023, regarding the players' collective agreement failed to achieve sufficient progress, according to the unions, five days after announcing a potential strike action on 01/09/2023.

The main disagreement is over minimum wage, which has been set at €16,000 per year since 2019. While the unions were calling for an increase to €25,000 in 2023-24 and to €30,000 in 2024-25, Liga F offered an increase to €18,000 in 2023-24 and to €25,000 in 2025-26. No agreement was reached, despite a second proposal from the unions for a salary of €23,000 in 2023-24, compared with Liga F's offer of €20,000.
