FIFA: a record 2023 summer transfer window with 10,125 international transfers and $7.36bn spent

Men's professional football clubs completed a record 10,125 international transfers during the 2023 summer transfer window (01/06 to 01/09/2023), up 4.2% from 2022 (9,717 international transfers), according to FIFA in a report on the latest transfer period published on 08/09/2023.

Men's clubs also set a new spending record during this summer window, with $7.36bn (€6.87bn) in transfer fees, up 47.2% on the $5bn (€5bn as of 09/09/2022) spent during the 2022 summer transfer window (from 01/06 to 01/09/2022). Service fees for clubs agents also reached unprecedented highs, both in terms of the total amount ($696.6m/€650m) and of the percentage that this sum represented of the total transfer fees paid by clubs (9.5%). The previous record for fees paid to intermediaries was set in 2019, at $536.2m.

Among the 10,125 international transfers, 8,140 (80.4%) involved free players (no compensation to be paid), down from 8,214 in 2022.
