Spain/RFEF: "I have handed in my resignation as president to Mr. Pedro Rocha" (Luis Rubiales)

"At 21:30 today, I handed in my resignation as president of the RFEF to the acting president, Mr Pedro Rocha, and informed him that I had done the same for my position at UEFA so that I could be replaced as vice-president," said Luis Rubiales, president of the Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol, in a message published on his social media channels on the evening of 10/09/2023.

Luis Rubiales was suspended by FIFA from "all football-related activities" for 90 days on 26/08/2023 after kissing Spanish striker Jenni Hermoso on the mouth against her will during the presentation ceremony for the Women's World Cup 2023, which La Roja won 1-0 versus England on 20/08/2023. Since that date, Pedro Rocha has been in charge of the Spanish Federation on an interim basis.

For its part, the Spanish public prosecutor's office announced on 04/09/2023 that it would be opening a preliminary investigation into an alleged "sexual assault", inviting Jennifer Hermoso to contact the Audiencia Nacional (court) "within 15 days" to lodge a complaint, which she did two days later.
