Ligue 1 TV rights (2020-2024): Judicial Court rejects Canal+ & beIN's complaints regarding Lot 3

The Judicial Court has rejected the complaints lodged by the Canal+ and beIN SPORTS France groups with a view to obtaining the revocation of Lot 3 of the Ligue 1 Uber Eats broadcasting rights for the 2020-2024 cycle (two games per matchday for €332m), and has called on beIN to "perform all of its obligations" on 19/09/2023.

Canal+ had sublicensed this lot from beIN SPORTS under an exclusive distribution agreement for €332m per season on 09/12/2019. Canal+ had written to beIN to inform it of its intention to withdraw from its sublicensing agreement, following Amazon's acquisition, in June 2021, of the Ligue 1 rights initially held by Mediapro for more than three times less than the amount bid by the Spanish group (€250m versus €780m). beIN considered that the awarding of the rights to Amazon "upset the balance of the licensing agreement for Lot 3 and removed the raison d'être of that agreement," according to the court.
