Spain: RFEF lets go of secretary general Andreu Camps, close to Rubiales, and looks to a new era

"The Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol has dispensed with the services of the secretary general, Andreu Camps," announced the RFEF on the evening of 20/09/2023. The departure of the man closely associated with Luis Rubiales was one of a number of requests made by the Spanish women's team, who until now had refused to wear the La Roja shirt again because of the changes deemed insufficient within the organisation of the RFEF since the resignation of the former president, who had forcibly kissed striker Jennifer Hermoso during the presentation of the Women's World Cup 2023 trophy.

"The Federation will not appoint a new secretary general, and the functions will be temporarily assumed by Elvira Andrés (director of the president's cabinet) and Alfredo Olivares (director of competitions) until the completion of the electoral process," explained the body, which has been chaired provisionally by Pedro Rocha since 26/08/2023 and FIFA's suspension Luis Rubiales, who eventually resigned on 10/09/2023.
