Premier League: Canal+ extends its broadcasting rights in France until 2027-28

Canal+ has extended its rights to broadcast the Premier League in France until 2028, announced the French pay-TV group on 21/09/2023. Canal+ had acquired the rights for the 2019-2022 cycle on 31/10/2018 and then for 2022-2025 on 07/07/2021. As part of this new agreement, Canal+ has also obtained the rights to broadcast the English league in Switzerland (in French only), the Czech Republic and Slovakia (for its subsidiary M7, exclusively), as well as in Vietnam (for its subsidiary K+, also exclusively).

Canal+ acquired the broadcasting rights in France for the 2019-2022 cycle, at a cost of €100m per season. The subsidiary of Vivendi then shared these rights (on 24/05/2019) with the pay-TV bouquet RMC Sport (€50m each), which had held them exclusively for the previous cycle (2016-2019). The two groups co-broadcast all the matches over the 2019-2022 cycle. This sharing arrangement was not subsequently renewed, with Canal+ becoming the exclusive broadcaster of the Premier League in France from the 2022-23 season.
