LFP TV rights (2024-2029): Canal+ will not be participating in the call for tenders (press)

The free and pay-TV group Canal+ will not take part in the call for tenders for the domestic broadcasting rights to the Ligue 1 Uber Eats for the 2024-2029 cycle, according to the French sports daily L'Équipe on 25/09/2023.

Canal+ reportedly sent a letter to the LFP on Monday 25/09/2023 to inform the body of its intention, the first time this has happened since the group was founded in 1984. According to L'Équipe, Canal+ feels that it has been "discredited" in comparison with Amazon and believes that the minimum amounts set by the League for the first two lots are a "way of eliminating potential candidates or of leading to an unsuccessful bid in order to negotiate directly with its American partner."

The call for tenders for the TV rights to Ligue 1 over the next cycle was launched on 12/09, while the allocation of the lots is scheduled for 17/10/2023 (from 10:00 CET).
