Qatar 2022: EPFL and ECA together propose a World Cup in May (from 05/05 to 04/06/2022)

The EPFL (Association of European Professional Football Leagues) and the ECA (European Club Association) have together presented a joint proposal, on 16/12/2014, for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to be held from 05/05 to 04/06/2022.

"The May option is the best alternative to the traditional June-July timing, since it retains the logical calendar order and avoids compressing such an important competition as the World Cup in the middle of the traditional and busy club Football season (winter season). As such, simply avoiding this concentration makes the May option by far less intrusive compared to all winter proposals," stated the EPFL and the ECA in a joint statement.
