Spain: 194,381 jobs and €8.39bn in tax revenue generated by professional football in 2021-22

• 194,381 full-time jobs, including 66,541 (34%) direct jobs.
• €18.35bn in direct and indirect contributions to the national economy, or 1.44% of Spain's GDP.
• €8.39bn in tax revenue for the State.
• €6.5bn spent directly by fans.
• €109m invested in sustainable development, representing 5.6% of total LALIGA turnover.

These are the main figures from the report on the "Socioeconomic Impact of professional football in Spain" in 2021-22, produced by the auditing and consultancy firm KPMG and presented by LALIGA on 28/09/2023.

Of the €8.316bn in direct spending generated by Spanish professional football in 2021-22, €6.5bn (78%) was by fans, including €2.9bn on sports betting, €1.1bn on the internet, €827m on TV subscriptions, and the remaining €1.613bn for other categories (sports press, hospitality, ticketing, etc.), according to the body.

Tax revenues (€8.39bn) collected by the Spanish State break down as follows:
• 37% via VAT (€3bn)
• 21% from corporate income tax (€1.79bn)
• 20% via personal income tax (€1.74bn)
• 18% via social security tax (€1.52bn)
