MLS: a training centre project ($150m) announced by the future San Diego franchise

The future MLS franchise in the city of San Diego (California, United States), which will make its debut in Major League Soccer in 2025, has announced plans to build a training and education centre on 02/10/2023. The cost of the project is estimated at $150m (€142m) according to media.

"The facility will be located on a 28-acre site in El Cajon, California on Sycuan tribal land, making San Diego the first professional sports organisation to establish a dedicated training facility on a tribal reservation," explained the franchise.

It will include in particular:
• the construction of a state-of-the-art sports performance facility for the first team and academy teams (ages 11-18)
• The renovation of ten existing hotel buildings, which will be reassigned to housing players in training, housing and offices for employees and accommodation for visitors
• Five football pitches, including three natural grass pitches and two synthetic pitches
