Premier League: launch of Barclays Premier League Works, programme to help disadvantaged youth

The Premier League and its partner and title sponsor, the British bank Barclays, launched the Barclays Premier League Works, a programme that aims to help disadvantaged young people have access to education and vocational training, on 04/12/2014.

This educational program, in conjunction with Premier League clubs, aims to enable young people build confidence and gain experience so they then make a gradual transition into employment.

Arsenal, Everton, Southampton, Stoke City and Sunderland have already implemented the programme

  • 116 young people have been hired via Premier League five clubs: Arsenal FC, Everton FC, Southampton FC, Stoke City FC and Sunderland AFC through the Barclays Premier League Works programme.
    • 89 of them (or 76.7%) now work in the education sector.
  • 4000 other young people who have completed the programme, receiving counseling from the Community Champions, the organisation that brings together young people successfully through the Barclays Premier League Works programme.
