"We're talking about matches in the Bulgarian championship. I will not talk about (which) football games and (which) football teams, because it is an extremely sensitive issue. I think it should be discussed in the courtroom, not by me as Secretary," stated Svetlozar Lazarov, the Bulgarian Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior, on 18/12/2014.

On 9 and 10/12/2014, Bulgarian police arrested several club officials, coaches, and players from A PFG ("Professional Football Group A", the Bulgarian first division) clubs in Sofia (BUL), as well as referees and other members associated with professional football in Bulgaria, for suspected match fixing. Initially, the investigation was thought to only concern pre-season friendly matches of Bulgarian clubs, but the Ministry of the Interior has confirmed matches of the domestic championship are involved in the investigation.
