RWC France 2023: 1.8 million fans in stadiums & 164.5 million TV viewers in France after 40 matches

1.838 million spectators attended the 40 matches played in nine different stadiums during the group stage of the Rugby World Cup 2023, from 08/09 to 08/10/2023, according to data collected by News Tank on 09/10/2023.

"That's already 8% more than the entire Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan," said Michel Poussau, chief of events at World Rugby and RWC 2023 tournament director. The average attendance was nearly 46,000, with an average stadium fill rate of 93.1%.

The competition has also set a record in terms of sales of hospitality services in the stadiums, with 120,000 packages already sold to date (admission price: €400), compared with 63,000 in 2019, 75,000 in 2015 (in England) and 100,000 (the previous record) during the Rugby World Cup 2007, the majority of which was held in France. "And there are still opportunities," added Jacques Rivoal, president of the GIP France 2023.

With 1.16 million visitors in one month, the organisation has also set a record for the number of visitors to the Rugby Villages, the fan zones integrated into the 10 host cities, exceeding the figure of 1.13…
