The Los Angeles 2028 organising committee submitted a proposal to the IOC on 09/10/2023 for five additional sports to be included in the programme of the 2028 Olympic Games. They are flag football (a non-contact variant of American football), cricket (in Twenty20 format), baseball/softball, lacrosse and squash. With the exception of squash, four of these disciplines are team sports.

"Following its discussion of the LA28's proposal, the IOC's Olympic Programme Commission will issue a recommendation to the IOC executive board. If the recommendation is accepted, the IOC executive board will present the proposal to the 141st IOC Session in Mumbai, India (15-17/10/2023). If approved, the final event programme and number of athlete quotas in the additional sports will be finalised in the future," explained the body.

28 sports are already on the programme for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Three of these five sports have already been contested at the Olympic Games: baseball/softball (from 1992 to 2008 and in 2020), cricket (1900) and lacrosse (1904 and 1908).

Squash was not included…
