IOC: Russian Committee suspended, decision to be made on Russian athletes at the 2024 Olympics

"The Russian Olympic Committee is suspended with immediate effect until further notice" and "is no longer entitled to operate as a National Olympic Committee, as defined in the Olympic Charter, and cannot receive any funding from the Olympic Movement," announced the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 12/10/2023.

"As stated in the IOC’s position and recommendations of 28/03/2023, which remain fully in place, the IOC reserves the right to decide about the participation of individual neutral athletes with a Russian passport in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 and the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 at the appropriate time," said the body. Its president, Thomas Bach, said on 18/07/2023 that he did not wish to add to the divisions that exist in the world and that he wanted to act in the same way for all of the world's athletes, including those holding Russian and Belarusian passports.
