RWC 2023: 16.5 million viewers for France - South Africa on TF1, best audience of the year

France - South Africa (28-29), quarter-final of the Rugby World Cup 2023, drew an average of 16.5 million viewers with a peak of 18.4 million on the private free-TV channel TF1, on Sunday 15/10/2023 (kick-off at 21:00 CET), according to data from the audience measurement institute Médiamétrie.

This figure represented an audience share of 62.1% (76% among 25-49 year olds and 85% among 15-34 year olds). This is "the best audience of the year (all channels combined) and the best rugby audience since 2007," according to TF1.

Prior to the match, the best audience in 2023 was posted during the opening game of the Rugby World Cup 2023 between France and New Zealand (27-13), which drew an average of 15.4 million viewers with a peak at 17 million on TF1 on Friday 08/09/2023 (kick-off at 21:15 CET), according to Médiamétrie data (audience share: 64.5%).
