Song Kai has been elected president of the Chinese Football Association at the 12th Congress of the body's members, held in Beijing on 16/10/2023.

Song Kai, 58, is head of the Liaoning Province (north-east China) Administration of Sport, and had held the position of vice president of the CFA's elective committee since June 2023. He succeeds Chen Xuyuan, elected president of the Chinese FA in August 2019, who was forced to step down after being charged on 26/09/2023 with corruption, accused of having "accepted bribes of a particularly large size," according to a statement from the procuratorate of Hubei province (central China).

"We will try our best to build a more united, more hardworking, more open, more transparent and more courageous CFA in the future," said Song Kai.

  • Sun Wen, Yuan Yongqing, Yang Xu and Xu Jiren were also elected vice presidents of the Chinese Football Association (Sun Wen was in fact re-elected). Yuan Yongqing will also take up the post of secretary general of the association.
  • A 20-member executive committee was also elected.
