IOC: flag football, cricket, baseball, lacrosse & squash validated as additional sports for LA28

"Baseball/softball, cricket (T20), flag football, lacrosse (sixes) and squash have been officially included as additional sports on the programme for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 (LA28)," announced the IOC during its 141^st session in Mumbai, India, on 16/10/2023.

The Los Angeles 2028 Organising Committee proposed these five additional sports to the IOC on 09/10/2023. The addition of these five disciplines concerns the LA28 Games only.

Three of these five sports have already been included in the Olympic Games: baseball/softball (from 1992 to 2008 and in 2020), cricket (1900) and lacrosse (1904 and 1908). Flag football and squash, on the other hand, will make their Olympic debut at the 2028 Games.

With the exception of squash, four of the five disciplines selected are team sports. Squash was not included as one of the additional sports for the Paris 2024 Games, namely breaking, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing (i.e. team sports only).
