"We have managed to seal the hole, but work must continue to reduce the debt to a sustainable amount," said Eduard Romeu, economic vice president at FC Barcelona (LALIGA EA Sports), on 18/10/2023.

Eduard Romeu spoke three weeks after the Catalan club published its results for the 2022-23 financial year, which included record revenues of €1.259bn, a net profit of €304m and a reduction in net debt from €680m on 30/06/2021 to €552m on 30/06/2023.

"We are returning to ordinary current income (in 2023-24). That means without extraordinary operations, without levers, or sales and a very significant reduction in salaries paid to the professional sports teams," said Barça's vice president, who is projecting revenues of €859m and a net profit of €11m for the end of the current financial year. This drop in revenue is due in particular to home games being played at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Montjuïc due to the work currently being carried out at the Spotify Camp Nou.
