UK: Sharon White appointed chief executive of Ofcom, will take office in March 2015

Sharon White has been appointed chief executive of Ofcom, the UK independent authority regulating telecommunications competition, on 16/12/2014. She will take office in late March 2015 and replace Ed Richards, who leaves office in late December 2014.

Sharon White has been a senior official in the British Treasury. She was the director general of public expenditures of the UK Treasury from 2011 to 2013.

  • Sharon White's appointment was approved by Sajid Javid, the British Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
  • Steve Unger, director of the SITE unit (strategy, international, technology and economy), will manage Ofcom in the interim between the departure of Ed Richards late December 2014 and the arrival of Sharon White late March 2015.
  • Ofcom states that the annual salary of Sharon White will be £275,000 (about €350,000).
