Spain: governing bodies & players create a "Joint commission for the promotion of women's football"

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), the Spanish Higher Sports Council (CSD) and the players of the Spanish women's team have announced the creation of a Joint Commission for the Promotion of Women's Football at the "Ciudad del Fútbol" in Las Rozas, near Madrid (ESP) on 23/10/2023. The agreement was signed on behalf of the players by the three national team captains: Irene Paredes, Alexia Putellas and Olga Carmona.

The Spanish authorities and international women players had agreed to create this joint commission on 27/09/2023. "This comprehensive protocol for action should enable us to embark on a new, prosperous and productive phase," said the Federation.

Luis Rubiales, then president of the RFEF, was suspended by FIFA from "all football-related activities" for 90 days on 26/08/2023, after forcibly kissing Spanish striker Jennifer Hermoso on the mouth as the Spanish players receive medals and congratulations from officials following the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 final (Spain - England, 1-0) on 26/08/2023.
