Wolverhampton: permission to operate 8,253 rail seats at the Molineux Stadium renewed for 2023-24

Wolverhampton Wanderers FC (Premier League) have received renewed approval from the UK Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) to operate 8,253 rail seats at the Molineux Stadium (32,750 capacity) for the 2023-24 season, announced the club on 25/10/2023.

Since March 2023, these seats have been distributed throughout the stadium as follows: "5,553 seats in the Sir Jack Hayward Stand, 2,115 seats in the Stan Cullis Stand and 585 seats in the Steve Bull Lower Stand, providing a total capacity of 8,253 licensed standing seats across the stadium," said the Birmingham club. In 2019-20, the Wolves became the first Premier League club to be allowed to install rail seats in their stadium.

Standing had been banned in the UK since 1989 when legislation was introduced following the Hillsborough disaster on 15/04/1989, when 96 spectators were killed during a crowd surge at a match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at the Hillsborough Stadium, Sheffield (UK).
