Serie A TV rights: "We had to work in a context where there wasn't any competition" (L. De Siervo)

"The value of the Serie A could have been higher, but Italy has complicated regulations. The Competition Authority does not authorise the bundling of a football offer with an internet offer, which means that a telecommunications operator cannot pay a considerable sum. We had to work in a context where there was virtually no competition, because the players involved had very different ambitions. Above all, we are the world's leading country in terms of digital piracy. But a law passed unanimously will, from January 2024, allow AGCOM to interrupt broadcasts from pirate sites, applications and IPTV within thirty minutes," said Luigi De Siervo, CEO of the Lega Serie A, to the French sports daily L'Équipe on 02/11/2023.

DAZN and Sky Italia extended their broadcasting rights, in Italy, to the Serie A TIM for the 2024-2029 cycle (five seasons), on 23/10/2023.
