CAS: Russian Olympic Committee appeals against IOC suspension for interfering with the Ukraine NOC

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has registered the appeal lodged by the Russian Olympic Committee against the decision handed down by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) executive board on 12/10/2023, announced CAS on 06/11/2023.

"The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) is suspended with immediate effect until further notice following the unilateral decision taken by the ROC on 05/10/2023 to include, as its members, the regional sports organisations which are under the authority of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine" (namely Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia, areas in eastern Ukraine occupied by the Russian army) which "constitutes a breach of the Olympic Charter because it violates the territorial integrity of the NOC of Ukraine, as recognised by the International Olympic Committee in accordance with the Olympic Charter," announced the IOC on 12/10/2023.

"The panel of arbitrators will decide the matter is being constituted. At this time, it is not possible to indicate a time frame for the issuance of the decision," explained CAS.
